Captain’s Blog No 21, (09.02.21)
To all Pryors Hayes members,
The lockdown continues, I hope all members and their families remain safe and are somehow remaining cheerful despite the gloom and boredom. Various WhatsApp groups associated with the club continue to provide entertainment (of a sort) confirming that the (peculiar) sense of humour of some of our most illustrious members remains intact. Although I struggle to understand all the subtle (?) barbs, the post are compelling. So, thank you to everyone for their contributions.
There is no immediate prospect of a return to golf and no clear indication of when or how the lockdown will be eased. However, there is good news writ to vaccinations, I am sure many members will have had their first jab, so hopefully (fingers crossed) we might get back on the course sometime in March. (Maybe the weather will have improved by then). Looking forward, planning for the 2021 summer season is well under way. Both the Ladies and Gents competition committees have had their first meetings and I am sure the well-oiled Seniors Section will have plans in place.
We are optimistic that the summer competitive programme will be able to start on schedule at the beginning of April. There was a real sense of excitement as we discussed the coming season and with a fair wind, I think it could be a memorable summer. Because of the uncertainty exact details of things like the AGM, Captain’s handover and Captain’s drive-in have not yet been finalised but be assured everyone is geared up to go as soon as external factors permit.
Our next Captain and Vice-Captain (Gordon Wallace and Simon Hetherington) and Lady Captain and Lady Vice (Sue Dunne and Pam Oatley) are raring to go!
I mentioned last time that our house sale was scheduled for 29th January. Everything went through smoothly, so after 26 very happy years, we have left Orchard End, Barrow and am now living at our temporary abode in Dunham on the Hill. We have some very salubrious neighbours including the Shields and the Wynnes! Despite religiously scanning ‘Rightmove’ every day and viewing quite a few properties, we have not yet found a house to buy (we are obviously very fussy!) but we live in hope!
So, with an optimistic glance towards the coming golf season, until the next time, stay safe.
Dave
